Coronavirus Update - effective from Saturday 21st March 2020
In these unprecedented times, we know that Coronavirus is a concern for everyone as it affects all of us. We are in a unique position like anyone who has animals to look after outside - we have an ongoing responsibility to them and do have to clean out the cats and feed them every day, so there will be staff on site every morning till midday, seven days a week.
If you have a cat that you need to rehome, we would prefer it if you could message us on our Facebook page first (or send us an email.)
If urgent we will be on site every day till midday. If you have any cat food/litter to donate to our cats please drop it off while we are there in the mornings.
We are out in the countryside, and have large areas of well ventilated outdoor cat runs that are separate from each other. We will have less than 5 people on site every day, and will be practising social distancing. We cannot show you round the Sanctuary at the moment if you visit to drop anything in to us.
Of course, we are doing all we can to help combat the spread of the virus to support the health of our visitors and helpers. Our volunteers that are aged 70+ are remaining at home during this crisis.
We clean out the cats every day at the Sanctuary, and maintain high levels of cleanliness all year round. We are fortunate to have mainly Upvc cat chalets and stainless steel isolation pens, which are easier to disinfect.
The Government has now issued revised guidelines to businesses about closing, do as a result of this our shop is now shut because of the Coronavirus crisis. If you have items to donate to our shop they can be dropped at the Sanctuary in the mornings instead at the moment.
We do have a small van and can collect in Colchester if you don’t have transport and have a lot of items to donate to the shop. Please message us if so.
Due to our loss of income at the shop, if you are able to help us financially please go to one of the online charity donation pages: we are on Virgin Money Giving and Give As You Live. You can make a one off donation or a regular monthly donation. We also have an Amazon wish list too of item that you can buy to help the cats. We can also email or post you a standing order form to do a small monthly donation if you prefer.
