We are unable to have any more Open Days however, the Sanctuary is always open 12.00 - 3.00 every Sat/Sun/Mon/Wed/Thurs (including
Bank Holidays) throughout the year if you wish to visit.
1) Flag Day - Saturday 6th
March 2010 (morning). Volunteers with collecting tins raise funds for Colchester Cat Rescue
in Colchester town centre at various sites in the shopping centre. We always need enough volunteers to shake a collecting
tin, so let us know if you can help. Meeting to get a collecting tin from 9.30am onwards, at
the Colchester Cat Rescue Charity Shop at 17 Eld Lane (opposite the Baptist Church, car parking below in Vineyard
St car park). All tins to be returned by 2.00pm, thank you.
The 2010 collection day was dry but with
a bitterly cold wind. Our kind helpers made a magnificent effort to try to raise money, not easy in a time of major economic
recession - thank you to all those involved for raising nearly £750.
2) Spring
Fayre - Saturday 1st May 2010.
The 2010 Fayre took place from 2 - 4pm on Saturday 1st
May at Greenstead Community Centre in Hawthorn Ave, Greenstead. It is based on the format of our successful Christmas Fayre,
with refreshments, including homebaked cakes, a raffle, the tombola, and stalls including jewellery, books, games and
toys, cakes, cards etc.
The 2010 event went well and raised just over £500 which included a large single donation
from a very kind donor.
Thank you to all those who helped by running a stall.
3)
Summer Garden Party - Friday 2nd July 2010 - CANCELLED due to Sheila's
fall and an outbreak of cat flu
From 7.30 pm on Friday 2nd July the event will be held
in a marquee in the Sanctuary gardens (in case of wet weather.) Visitors enjoy a pleasant summer's evening, and a
chance to visit the cats and see the Sanctuary illuminated at night. Free car parking again available
courtesy of our neighbours at Blenheim Nurseries.
If you would like tickets they are £10 per person
(includes a first course and a dessert, and your first drink). Please write to the Sanctuary enclosing your
cheque and a covering note with your name and address and the number of tickets required.
The 2009 Summer Garden
Party was well supported, with much better weather than recent years. Our guests enjoyed a wonderful spread of food
and drink. Most preferred the new location of the marquee nearer to the entrance to the site, saving the long walk
down to the meadow!
4) Christmas Fayre - Saturday 4th December 2010.
This takes place at
Stanway Village Hall, Villa Road, Stanway from 10.30 to 1pm.
Our annual opportunity to buy your Christmas
presents, look round all the stalls and enjoy refreshments such as homebaked cakes, and see the draw of our Grand Christmas
Raffle at 1pm.
Thank you to everyone who came along, the 2009 Fayre raised just over £1700. The 2009
Raffle also raised just under £3000 gross (however, the costs incurred eg. printing of raffle tickets, postage,
hire of the hall, advertising etc have to be taken off these figures.)
