There are many different ways that people can help their local animal rescue. On this page we present several different options to encourage others to get involved in our charity helping the cats. For example:-

Volunteer Your Time

Volunteer chalet staff - can you help by spending a morning or two looking after the cats? We need people (male or female) to help by cleaning out the cat chalets daily - cleaning out litter trays, replacing litter trays with fresh litter, providing fresh bedding, fresh drinking water, and cat biscuits, and putting on the laundry for the cat bedding that needs to be washed each day.
It is hands on work and very physical, so you will need to be able to lift/carry/bend when cleaning out. It needs to be done seven days a week - either one weekday or weekend depending on your availability, from approx 9am - lunchtime.
Please visit the Sanctuary during opening hours Sat/Sun/Mon/Wed/Thurs 12 - 3pm or email us. You would need to have your own transport to get to the Sanctuary as we are not on a regular bus route.
Regrettably we can only take volunteers of 16 years and over.

Volunteer feeders - we feed morning and evening. It takes about an hour or so every evening from approx 4 - 5 pm to feed about 180 cats. Can you help us? If so, please visit us or email us.

Volunteer fundraisers - can you do a stall for us at local events? We would like to have a stall in the Hospital Radio day at Colchester Castle Park, or at the Wivenhoe May Fair, West Mersea Lifeboat Day, Stratford St Mary Village Fete, the Five Parishes show, etc.
Or can you hold a Coffee Morning or Garage Sale at home, or have a stall at a car boot sale?
Sandra would like to hear from you at the Charity Shop on 01206 823700 (on Saturdays) or please email us.
Sandra is also looking for volunteers for the Charity Shop, particularly as she is trying to keep the shop open every Monday - Saturday from about 10am to 4pm. We are currently looking for another person on Wednesday and/or Thursday afternoons to cover 2pm - 4pm.

Volunteer events organisers - alternatively, are you able to help with co-ordinating the above events, and also our Flag Day, Summer Garden Party (formerly Cheese & Wine evening) or Christmas Fayre? You would be a good communicator, liaising with volunteer fundraisers, booking venues, arranging advertising, etc. If so, Sandra would like to hear from you (at the Shop on Saturdays tel 01206 823700) or email us.

Volunteers for maintenance - we have a large site at the Sanctuary and would be pleased to hear from anyone who would like to help with the upkeep of the gardens, or painting and repair of the cat chalets/sheds, etc. Please contact Mandy by email or Saturdays at the Sanctuary.

Thank you.

Please - help us to help the cats

We cannot survive without enough volunteers to make sure that the 180+ cats that we care for are looked after, or without enough volunteers raising funds to make sure that we can meet our ever increasing vets bills.
