Coronavirus Update - effective from Wednesday 6th January 2021

The Sanctuary:-
As from Wednesday 6th January 2021 we will be closed again as we cannot allow members of the public to come and look at the cats for rehoming, under the current Government guidelines.
If you have any queries or need help, please phone us on 01206 864284 , message us on our Facebook page Colchester Cat Rescue, or email us on

If you have a cat that you need to rehome, we would prefer it if you could message us on our Facebook page first (or telephone/send us an email.)

If urgent we will be on site every morning. If you have any cat food, cat litter, cat toys, pet accessories etc to donate to our cats please drop it off while we are there in the mornings.

If you are self isolating or fall into the vulnerable category, then we are sorry but please don't come in.

Thank you for your co-operation in these difficult times.

Charity Shop:-
Our shop is shut from 27th December 2020 after the latest Government lockdown. However we have moved to new shop premises from 1st January 2021, at 100 The Commons, Prettygate, Colchester CO3 4NW (01206 576085). Our new shop will reopen there Monday to Saturday 9 - 5pm as soon as non-essential retail is allowed to open again.

If you have items to donate to our shop they can be dropped at the Sanctuary in the mornings (before midday only). Donations must be clean, complete and in good condition for us to sell them - or we have to spend money disposing of it rather then spending it on the cats. If you wouldn't buy it in a shop, then please don't bring it in.

Most people understand this, but during the last lockdown we were having to fill 2 or 3 wheely bins each week of dirty, broken unsaleable items. To those of you who give us such lovely donations of clean saleable goods, we are so grateful. The shop is our greatest source of income - we are dependent on your generosity which helps us to neuter, feed and provide veterinary care to cats in need.

We do have a small van and can collect in Colchester (whilst social distancing), if you don’t have transport and have a large amount of items to donate to the shop. Please message us on Facebook or email if so.

Due to our loss of income at the shop, if you are able to help us financially please go to one of the online charity donation pages: we are on Virgin Money Giving and Give As You Live. You can make a one off donation or a regular monthly donation. We also have an Amazon wish list too of item that you can buy to help the cats. We can also email or post you a standing order form to do a small monthly donation if you prefer.

Thank you
